In the novel " A Study in Scarlet" the events of a " A Study in Scarlet" in occur in London,
England in the first part and Slat Lake City. Ultah in the second part. These events take place during
the early 1980s. London is the capital of the British Empire. But this London in which Holmes and
Watson live is of the empire. It contains a population of British citizens who have lived in
London their entire lives, peoples whose residential addresses immediately reveal their type of class.
But however because of the strict class hierarchy in British society during the second period in which
the novel is set, London is also a place of separate and distinct cultures, were the poor live in allies or
beg for money on the street, were in the other hand the high class live with liturgy.
